Local Dog is a truly local business, currently serving Montclair, New Jersey and the surrounding towns. Shipping frozen food is costly and environmentally taxing. By sourcing and selling locally our food is fresher and more sustainably produced than national brands, while still being more affordable. As we grow we'll explore shipping outside of New Jersey but for now we're focused on developing the local model and keeping our food as fresh as possible.
Is it similar to The Farmer's Dog?
Yes — in all the good ways.
Like them, we make fresh, nutritionally balanced dog food from real, whole ingredients.
Local Dog is woman-owned, Montclair-made, and rooted in community. We cook in kitchens, not factories. Our proteins are single-origin. Our ingredients are sourced from local farms whenever possible. We deliver by hand, not algorithm.
We’re not trying to “disrupt” anything — just feed your dog really good food and make you feel great about it.
Where can I buy Local Dog?
We're currently selling in and around Montclair, New Jersey. You can purchase our food right here on the website, in person every Saturday at the Montclair Farmers' Market, at Van Hook Cheese (Montclair & Jersey City) and at the Ironbound Farm Market (coming soon) in Lackawanna Station.
Is Local Dog raw or cooked?
Our recipes are gently cooked, retaining the nutritional benefits of whole ingredients while eliminating the risks associated with raw diets. Studies have shown that raw pet food can be a source of antibiotic-resistant bacteria such as Salmonella or E. coli, which can be dangerous for both pets and their humans. Gently cooked food is a safer, more balanced way to nourish your dog with the same quality you'd want for yourself.
